LAHORE: Pakistan’s official Covid-19 death toll rose on Tuesday to more than 19,106 marking a bleak milestone for the country’s health system.
Pakistan has reported 113 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 864,557. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 19,106 on Tuesday.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 3,084 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths and cases followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
320,851 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Punjab, 293,426 in Sindh, 124,979 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 78,382 in Islamabad, 23,534 in Balochistan, 17,984 in Azad Kashmir and 5,401 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Pakistan has so far conducted 12,267,310 coronavirus tests and 38,883 in the last 24 hours. 766,492 patients have recovered in the country whereas 4,859 patients are in critical condition. The COVID Positivity Ratio was recorded at 9.13 percent.
The NCOC has shown concern on reported violations of the instructions from various cities regarding implementation of SOPs as it imposed a lockdown from 8-16th May. The NCOC officials instructed all provinces to ensure complete compliance of instructions with full administrative control.
According to the NCOC, all markets, businesses and shops will remain closed except essential services including grocery stores, medical stores, health facilities and vaccination centres, vegetable, fruit, chicken and meat shops, bakeries, petrol pumps, food takeaways and e-commerce (home delivery), utility services and media offices.
Similarly, all tourist resorts, formal and informal picnic spots, public parks, shopping malls, all hotels and restaurants around tourist spots will also remain closed during this period.
Tourists leading to any tourism destination will not be allowed to enter tourist destinations. Moreover, ban on inter-provincial, inter-city and public transport will be imposed, except for private vehicles, taxis, rickshaws with 50 percent occupancy.
