Pakistan may lift ban on domestic LNG connections if Qatar restores supply

The Pakistani government is considering lifting the ban on new domestic LNG connections if liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Qatar improve.

According to officials in the Petroleum Division, Qatar suspended LNG exports worldwide after attacks on LNG production facilities during the U.S.-Iran conflict.

The suspension has now been extended until the end of August 2026.

Sources said that once Qatar declares an end to the force majeure, Pakistan is likely to remove restrictions on new LNG connections. If supply conditions improve as expected, the ban on residential LNG connections could be lifted by September.

The government had halted new domestic LNG connections in May following the disruption in LNG supplies from Qatar.
