Pakistan imported tea worth Rs87.326 billion in FY24-25

Pakistan’s import bill has swelled in the first six months of FY 2024-25, data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the country’s import bill for food and edible oil has increased substantially in the first six months of the current fiscal year.

From July to December, Pakistan imported pulses worth Rs 147.262 billion, registering a 12.56% increase compared to the same period last year.

In contrast, tea imports declined by 9.50% to Rs 87.326 billion during the same period.

However, the import of dried fruits increased significantly by 118.32% to Rs 24 billion plus during the first six months of the current fiscal year.

Pakistan also imported palm oil worth Rs 428.216 billion and soybean oil worth Rs 34.73 billion during the same period, registering a 32.33% increase in soybean oil imports.

Additionally, the country imported Rs 16.88 billion worth of infant milk formula from July to December.

On a monthly basis, tea imports increased by 6.62% in December, with the country importing Rs 15.624 billion worth of tea.

Soybean oil imports surged by 238.93% in December, with the country importing Rs 14.252 billion worth of soybean oil.
