WASHINGTON: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan has played its role in support for de-escalations for peace in the region.
While addressing at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the foreign minister highlighted his recent visits to Iran and Saudi Arabia, said that Pakistan was performing its role in support of efforts for resolution of the issue through diplomacy in the region.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan had stable relations with Saudi Arabia and Iran and its neighboring country.
Moreover, Qureshi while highlighting the alarming situation in Indian occupied Kashmir, wrote on Twitter, “The Foreign Minister briefed the Senators on India’s lockdown in Jammu and Kashmir, and its implications for regional security.”
He further wrote that peace and stability in South Asia would remain elusive until the Kashmir dispute was resolved in accordance with international law and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
According to him, the situation in Kashmir has traditionally been strained due to conflicting sovereignty claims by India and Pakistan.
Qureshi is currently on an official visit to the US, to ease down the tension between the middle east countries which quickly escalated after the US airstrikes assassinated Iranian general Qasem Soleimani on 3rd January.
