An exhibition of artworks and handicrafts by inmates of Karachi Central Prison opened at the Arts Council of Pakistan’s gallery.
About 200 works of art by more than 35 prisoners have been placed in the exhibition. A large number of enthusiastic people flocked to the exhibition and admired the paintings by the inmates.
Beautiful artworks and handicrafts were exhibited at the Arts Council. This exhibition was rather unusual as the artists who created these spectacular pieces of art are incarcerated in jail.
A painting created by an artist named Ijaz has also been intricately embroidered. The price of the painting has been fixed at 80 thousand rupees. The jail administration says that if this painting is sold, then the prisoner who made the painting is entitled to the entire amount.
Art lovers can buy the painting and support a prisoner’s family. The paintings are really impressive and seem to have been painted by a skilled artist, not a prison inmate.
Police say the exhibit mostly features works by inmates who have either been sentenced to up to 25 years in prison or sentenced to death. Previously, these paintings were sent to other exhibitions, but for the first time, this exhibition was organized by the police.
A large number of citizens came to see the exhibition and appreciated the work of the prisoners. People said that we should appreciate the work of the prisoners are their lives in closed cells are different from others.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori and attended by Arts Council president Ahmed Shah and caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi. The painting will continue till Monday, September 25.
