KARACHI: Opposition parties JUI, Qaumi Awami Tehreek, and Azad members have announced a protest outside the Sindh Assembly, where police arrested 10 workers of Qaumi Awami Tehreek given the implementation of Section 144.
According to the details, the opposition party workers under the leadership of Allama Rashid Mahmood Soomro staged a dharna at the toll plaza, as a result of which the Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway was closed, where all types of traffic was stopped.
Strict security arrangements have been made to stop the protest outside the Sindh Assembly. The police set up barriers by installing water tankers on Shaara-e-Faisal and culverts were also installed to stop the protestors from protesting.
Senior opposition leader Allama Rashid Soomro said that peaceful public protest is our constitutional right. “Our rights are being taken away from us. The police have closed the roads leading to the Sindh Assembly for all kinds of traffic,” he added.
The provincial government had imposed Section 144 in this area since last night. Women are also among the JUI workers protesting outside the Assembly. As soon as the protestors reached Fawara Chowk, a heavy contingent of police surrounded them.
