Despite being the world’s fifth-largest milk producer, Pakistan only ensures that 2 billion liters out of its annual 30 billion liters of milk meet international safety standards.
Barrister Nabeel Awan highlighted Punjab’s critical role in improving milk safety, as the province contributes 60% of the country’s milk production.
He stressed that public-private partnerships could drive significant advancements, enhancing public health and boosting the provincial economy.
He also said that stronger policies could help address child malnutrition, which affects over 40% of children under five in Punjab.
Barrister Awan stressed the importance of developing a comprehensive safe milk framework and announced plans for a consultation session with experts in January to tackle key challenges.
The meeting was attended by notable figures, including former Federal Secretary Waqar Masood, Member Agriculture Aslam Javaid, Member Health Shafaat Ali, and Consultant P&D Board Javed Latif.
In related developments, the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) for 2024–25 approved two development schemes worth over Rs1 billion. The meeting, chaired by Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan, underscored the government’s commitment to development initiatives.
