On which day is Eid expected?

Eidul Fitr 2025 is expected in Pakistan on Monday, 31 March, however it depend on the sighting on moon on 30 March, however,if the moon is not sighted on Sunday, 30 March, the Eid day will fall on Tuesday.

Meetings of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held on March 30 to confirm the moon sighting. As per experts, at the time of the committee’s meeting, the age of the moon will be 27 hours.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has confirmed that the moon will remain visible for about one hour on March 30.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council predicts that Eidul Fitr in 2025 will likely fall on March 31, as the crescent moon is expected to be visible in most regions of Pakistan on the evening of March 30. At that time, the moon is anticipated to be 27 hours old, fulfilling the conditions for visibility.

According to a report, the meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee regarding the sighting of the Eid ul-Fitr moon will be held in Islamabad on March 30, while the meetings of other zonal committees will be held at their designated locations.

In this regard, the Meteorological Department has predicted that Eid ul-Fitr will most likely fall on Monday, March 31. A spokesperson for the Meteorological Department said that the birth of the Shawwal moon will occur on March 29 at 3:58 PM, and the moon will remain visible in the sky for 70 minutes after sunset.

The department further stated that the moon, which will be over 20 hours old, can be easily seen with the naked eye, and by March 30, the moon will be approximately 27 hours old at the time of sighting.

It is worth mentioning that the International Astronomical Center had previously confirmed that the Shawwal moon would be impossible to see on March 29 (Saturday) in all Arab and Islamic regions. This is because the moon will set before the sun and the conjunction will occur after sunset.

Due to these astronomical changes, observing the Eid crescent on March 29, whether by the naked eye, telescopes, or any other means, will be impossible.

For countries that require actual sightings to confirm the start of Shawwal, it is likely that Ramadan will extend to 30 days, making Eid ul-Fitr fall on Monday, March 31. Some countries, based on their traditional moon sighting methods, may choose to announce Eid ul-Fitr on Sunday, March 30.

Meanwhile, in Pakistan, the Federal government has officially declared Eidul-Fitr holidays from Monday, March 31, to Wednesday, April 2.

The exact date of the festival is traditionally determined by the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon.
