ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has increased prices of Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) on networks of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) for the month of July.
According to a notification issued on Wednesday, the new price of the imported RLNG for the SSGC system has gone up by $0.39 per Million British Thermal Unit (MMBtu) to $6.67 per MMBtu from its earlier level of $6.2716 MMBtu in June.
Likewise, the price of imported the RLNG for the SNGPL system has been increased by $0.34 per MMBtu to $6.4750 per MMBtu from its earlier level of $6.1284 MMBtu in June.
Citizens rejected the new prices and said the notified hike in the RLNG prices would add insult to the injuries of the masses.
They said that the rise in the prices would ultimately increase the per-unit price of electricity, as RLNG is a major contributor to power generation.
According to a notification issued by OGRA, determination of RLNG weighted average sale prices for the month of July 2020 has been done by the regulator in accordance with federal government decision regarding ‘RLNG Allocation, Pricing, and Associated Matters’ and advice from the Ministry of Energy regarding weighted average sale price.
The new weighted average sale prices of RLNG was computed based on the basis of data provided by Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Pakistan Energy Limited (PLL), as six of the nine RLNG cargoes for July were imported by PSO and the rest were imported by PLL.
New prices also include LNG terminal charges, transmission losses, port charges and margins of importers, the notification said.
