ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulator Authority (NEPRA) has slapped a fine of Rs. 10 million on National Transmission and Despatch Company Ltd (NTDC) for September 2021 breakdown at Jamshoro Grid Station that rendered residents of Karachi and HESCO region without power.
NEPRA on Tuesday said that after lightning strike at Jamshoro Grid Station on Sept 1, 2021, the facility tripped as result of which the electricity produced from wind energy exited from the system.
The Rs. 10 million fine was slapped for NTDC’s failure to ensure uninterrupted power supply following the breakdown in Karachi and HESCO region.
“The NTDC took 2.33 hours to fully restore electricity from Jamshoro Grid Station,” says a statement issued by NEPRA, adding that despite being issued show cause notice to probe into the breakdown, NTDC failed to submit reply within the given time.
It may be recalled that on Sept 1, 2021, several areas in Karachi and Hyderabad faced power outages due to tripping of Jamshoro Grid Station-linked high power transmission line.
