ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of National Food Security and Research Khusro Bakhtiar on Tuesday informed the Senate that four million tons of wheat were present in the public sector and there was no shortage of commodities in the country.
In a senate session on Tuesday Federal Minister Khusro Bakhtiar said that members of the assembly from the less populated province claiming that people living on almost 70pc of Pakistan’s total land did not even have basic facilities such as education, health and drinking water.

Participating in the debate on a report provided by the Chairman of the Senate Functional Committee on Less Developed Areas, Usman Kakar, Senators from Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) argued that despite having large amounts of energy and other natural resources and making an enormous contribution to national income, the citizens of the smaller provinces did not receive their acceptable share as enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan.
Mr Kakar said Sindh generated 63pc of the total gas and generated 60pc of the national revenue, but there were no basic facilities for the province. He identified the most backward districts of the province as Dadu, Jacobabad, Kambar, Kashmore, Sanghar, Tharparkar, Umerkot, and Badin.
On the other hand, Federal Minister of National Food Security Khusro Bakhtiar, who was called by the Chairman of the Senate to make a policy statement on the current flour crisis, he informed the house that four million tons of wheat were present in the public sector and there was no shortage of commodities in the country.
