Nicolas Cage has stated that he intends to end his film career and that he will work on “maybe three or four more movies” before turning his focus to television.
“I feel that I’ve, at this point – after 45 years of doing this; that in over 100 movies – I feel I’ve pretty much said what I’ve had to say with cinema,” Cage said in an interview with Uproxx “And I’d like to leave on a high note and say, ‘Adios’.”
Cage expressed a preference for Dream Scenario, the acclaimed fantasy comedy where he portrays an academic infiltrating others’ dreams, to serve as his final film. However, he acknowledged existing contractual commitments that he must honor.

Despite this, Cage now displays a keen interest in immersive streaming experiences within episodic television, citing his admiration for the well-regarded series Breaking Bad. He highlighted the creative possibilities offered by the medium, emphasizing the luxury of time for character development, as exemplified by Bryan Cranston’s prolonged contemplation of a suitcase in one Breaking Bad episode. Cage sees television as a potential avenue for him, given its capacity to delve deeper into characters.
Having been a fixture in the film industry since the early 1980s, Cage also hinted at personal motivations influencing his career choices. He expressed a desire to spend quality time with his family, particularly noting the importance of being present for his children, including a baby daughter. Cage envisions joining an episodic show that allows him to remain in one location, facilitating a stable family life without constant relocations—a prospect he finds appealing on a personal level.
