NHA Chairman inspects work on N-5 Pindi-Lahore section

ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) Captain retired Sikander Qayyum along with senior officers on Thursday inspected the Rawalpindi-Lahore section of National Highway N-5,

The purpose of the visit was to check the condition of Rawalpindi-Lahore section of N-5, alignment of the proposed project for construction of Shahdara flyover, and to review the pace of progress on the widening of Thokar-Hudiara drain project.

During his visit, the Chairman NHA directed that there should be no potholes and water stagnation anywhere along the road especially in front of NLC Wall in Cantt Area Rawalpindi at Thekrian and Imamia Colony Railway Crossing in Wazirabad.

He expressed desire to complete work of renovation and standardisation of 13 Toll Plazas well in time, ensuring quality as per specification.

He stressed on completion of improvement work at Jada Morr, Jhelum and instructed to protect trees along the alignment of the scheme to safeguard the environment by taking local NGOs on board.

The Chairman NHA also visited the location and alignment of proposed project of Shahdara Flyover to be constructed on Public-Private partnership (PPP) mode and instructed to complete the proceedings at the earliest.

He also inspected the pace of work on the widening of Thokar-Hudiara drain project. He said the remaining work be completed by December 2020 to facilitate commuters. He said national highway N-5 plays a vital role in socio-economic uplift and it was imperative to keep it in good condition.
