A new adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is reportedly in the works at Netflix.
While the series has yet to be officially greenlit, it is being developed and written by Dolly Alderton, the author of the popular millennial memoir “Everything I Know About Love”, which was also adapted into a series for BBC and Peacock in 2022.
Details regarding casting and additional information about the Netflix project have not been disclosed. Netflix previously adapted Austen’s work with the 2022 film Persuasion, starring Dakota Johnson. According to Variety, Netflix has declined to comment on the new series.
Pride and Prejudice, Austen’s most renowned novel, follows the intelligent yet headstrong Elizabeth Bennet as she navigates her evolving feelings for Mr. Darcy, a man she initially dislikes but ultimately grows to love.
Originally published in 1813, the novel has seen numerous screen adaptations, most notably the 2005 film featuring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, and the BBC’s 1995 miniseries starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.
Meanwhile, the BBC has also announced a spinoff series titled The Other Bennet Sister, focusing on Elizabeth Bennet’s sister, Mary.
