The world of K-dramas is rapidly ruling the world, especially Netflix the tales of romance, historical fiction, and amazing comedy.
In recent years, South Korea has produced a string of hit shows that have captivated audiences across the world. Moreover, in a recent research, it was revealed that about three-fifths of Netflix’s users have watched a Korean show.
Keeping this precious information in mind, here is a list of Korean dramas available to watch on Netflix this year:
1) Killer Paradox
Killer Paradox centers Lee Tang, a regular college student who one day accidentally kills a customer while working part-time at a convenience store. To his surprise, he later learns that the person he unintentionally killed is a serial killer responsible for heinous crimes against innocent people.
Furthermore, Lee Tang discovers that he has a unique ability to sense bad souls. He then embarks on a new mission as he tries to use the most of his gifted power.
Starring Choi Woo Shik, Son Suk Ku, Lee Hee Joon, Hyun Bong Sik, Kim Yo Han in Key roles, the 9-episode series will be released on February 9 on Netflix.
2) When Life Gives You Tangerines
When Life Gives You Tangerines stars IU and Park Bo-gum which will be released in 190 countries.
When Life Gives You Tangerines is about the story of Ae-sun (IU), ‘the remarkable rebel’ from Jeju Island, and Gwan-sik (Park Bo-gum), the unyielding iron.
Actress Moon So-ri and actor Park Hae-joon (“The World of the Married”) will play the adult versions of Ae-sun and Gwan-sik, respectively.
3) Aema
This comedy series set in Chungmuro, the heart of the Korean film industry in the 1980s, will depict the fictionalized process of creating the real-life film.
4) Alone in the Woods
This new highly-anticipated drama will revolve around two men: Sang-joon owns a motel in a rural area during the summer of 2001, while Young-ha runs a pension (a small, usually family-owned, short-term rental property) in a secluded forest in the present.
The latter’s life is turned upside down by the arrival of a suspicious woman. Many of the project’s details are still under wraps. The drama is still under production.
5) ‘Gyeongseong Creature’ season 2
Netflix has already announced a second season for its brand-new historical action epic, which took inspiration from real-life historical events to tell a supernatural horror story that centers on a mysterious creature terrorizing Japanese-occupied Seoul (then known as Gyeongseong) in the spring of 1945. Season 2 of the series will stream on Netflix sometime this year.
6) Hierarchy
‘Hierarchy’ will follow all the drama that takes place when new student Kang Ha disturbs the pecking order at Jusin High School, an elite school where the children of society’s top 0.01 percent reign with a rigid set of rules.
While plot details are still under wraps, the show boasts a talented young cast, including Roh Jeong-eui, Kim Jae-won, Ji Hye-won, and Lee Won-jeong.
7) Karma
Park Hae-soo and Shin Min-a will lead this crime thriller based on the Kakao webtoon of the same name. The show will follow the entangled lives of those who, without knowing how or why, end up repeating their karmic cycle with one another.
Some of the characters intertwined by their unbreakable fate include a man who witnesses a mysterious accident, a doctor who continues to suffer from childhood trauma, and a debt-ridden man desperate to free himself from the grip of loan sharks.
8) Two Women
This highly-anticipated drama will follow an enduring, love-hate friendship between two women who cross paths at various phases of life.
Ryu Eun-jung and Cheon Sang-yeon form a close bond in their school days, becoming each other’s best friends and rivals. As their bond changes over their twenties and thirties, the touching narrative will eventually reunite the pair at 42 years old as they face a profound challenge: Sang-yeon’s battle with cancer.
9) ‘Squid Game’ season 2
Though word is still out on whether Squid Game 2 will arrive in 2024 or 2025, we can’t leave out the highly anticipated continuation of Netflix’s most popular series ever.
10) All of Us Are Dead
After two years since All of Us Are Dead debuted its first 12-episode season, fans finally get an update regarding the target release date for the show’s return. Netflix is currently planning to release All of Us Are Dead Season 2 sometime this year.
