The New Gwadar International Airport is set to become operational on August 14, coinciding with Independence Day, as preparations are nearly complete.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is likely to oversee the soft launch of this major project. According to media reports citing reliable source in the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), all necessary arrangements have been finalized for the airport’s opening on this date.
Constructed at a cost of Rs54.98 billion, the New Gwadar International Airport is situated 26 km northeast of the current Gwadar airport and covers 3,000 acres of land provided by the government of Pakistan. It is the country’s second greenfield airport, following the new Islamabad Airport.
The airport will be capable of accommodating various aircraft, including the ATR 72, Airbus A-300, Boeing B-737, and Boeing B-747, for both domestic and international flights.
Currently, only four percent of the operational portion remains incomplete, with other developmental works anticipated to be finished by December 2025.
