A new breakthrough in the Zahra murder case has emerged, with at least four suspects in police custody. However, they have not yet been investigated by officials, as reported by national media on Saturday.
According to a report by ARY News, the police have arrested no fewer than eight suspects. Four of them are in police custody, while the remaining four were previously sent to jail during the investigation of the case.
The report states that those currently in police custody include Zahra’s sister-in-law and her son, Qasim, along with two distant relatives, Shabbir and Azan, who are from Wazirabad.
Meanwhile, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) stated that the four accused in police custody are not under investigation yet. The police continue to hold them in custody to gather more information about the case.
Case Background:
Zahra, a seven-month pregnant woman, was killed by her in-laws earlier this month in Daska city, Punjab. Her brutal murder sent shockwaves across the country. The victim’s mother-in-law murdered her and burned her face to conceal her identity.
Multiple media reports suggest that Sughra Bibi, along with her daughter Yasmeen, killed Zahra, dismembered the body, packed it into bags, and dumped it in a canal to hide the crime. The women severed the victim’s limbs and burned her head to prevent identification.
