Imagine a group of friends booking a ‘smart house’ for a fun weekend but instead AI running the house starts having fun with the group by targeting them one by one. Released on Netflix, the movie Margaux is about an advanced AI system that is based on sinister designs.
Directed by Steven C. Miller, ‘Margaux’ begins with a disturbing scene of the couple being murdered by their smart home and the story then switches to a group of friends planning for a weekend reunion trip.
The movie features Madison Pettis as Hannah the coder with no social media presence and Margaux’s most formidable opponent as the group skeptic. But the actress’s performance is so confusing, that you wonder if the character believes the tech-speak that she’s spouting. Jedidiah Goodacre is Drew, who met Hannah during freshman year, while Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan plays Lexi, his girlfriend. There is absolutely no chemistry between them as a couple.
The movie manages to get one thing spot on Susan Bennett who is the voice of Margaux, also voices Siri. Susan’s Margaux tries to be the gang’s friend, fulfilling all their wins and impressing them with her abilities. She also has the best lines in the film, using current Gen Z slang to stay relevant with them.
Overall the thriller movie is filled with bloody scenes and confusion about why the smart house wants to kill everyone who enters the house.
Another loophole in the movie is the motive behind the smart house which remains unclear as to why the corrupt AI wanted to kill all the guests of the house.
Last but not the least, this movie shows the other and darker side which is technology can indeed be scary and deadly.
