NEPRA receives request to increase price of electricity

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has received a request to increase the price of electricity.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) and K-Electric have submitted a request to Nepra for a hike in electricity prices. CPPA requested an increase of Rs 2 per unit in electricity prices in the form of a monthly fuel adjustment.

According to the request, $9.73 billion units of electricity were generated in the month of April, the cost of electricity production was Rs101 billion, last month electricity was generated at Rs23 per unit from furnace oil, Rs23.83 paisa electricity was generated from LNG. Electricity was imported from Iran at Rs23.44 paise per unit.

On the other hand, K Electric has also submitted a request for an increase in electricity prices to Nepra. K Electric asked for an increase of 48 paise per unit in terms of monthly fuel adjustment, while an increase of Rs5.17 paise per unit was requested in terms of quarterly adjustment. It should be noted that Nepra will hear the applications of CPPA and K Electric on May 31.
