Following the premiere of the Christmas special “Doctor Who: The Church on Ruby Road” today, the BBC and Disney have unveiled an exciting new trailer for the upcoming season of “Doctor Who.”
Featuring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, the duo will confront new monsters and embark on extraordinary adventures in the TARDIS. The upcoming season boasts an all-star cast, including the return of Yasmin Finney and Bonnie Langford reprising their roles as Rose Noble and Mel Bush.
Moreover, Jinkx Monsoon joins as the Doctor’s formidable adversary, Jonathan Groff takes on a mysterious key role, Indira Varma plays the Duchess, and Lenny Rush stars as Morris, among others.
For this new season, Disney and the BBC are resetting the series numbering. Previously spanning 26 seasons from 1963 to 1989 and 13 seasons from 2005 to 2021, the reset is likely due to Disney lacking rights to the older seasons. Labeling the new season as “Season 1” instead of “Season 14” aims to prevent confusion and make it more accessible for potential new fans who might be hesitant to start with a higher season number.
lthough no specific release date accompanied the trailer, the new series of “Doctor Who” is anticipated to debut in May 2024. Meanwhile, viewers can enjoy the three 60th Anniversary specials and the Christmas Special on BBC iPlayer (for UK viewers) and Disney+ (for viewers worldwide) while awaiting the upcoming season.
