KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that Pakistan People’s Party always supports freedom of expression and safety of the rights of women.
Nasir Hussain Shah said that when he talked about the protection of the rights of the women in Pakistan it always included the rights of the women linked with the profession of journalism.
This he said while addressing a seminar on the current decline in the media industry and Venues for Female Journalists in Pakistan.
The minister said that as and when he got the portfolio of Information Ministry, he not only got the first-hand knowledge of the troubles being faced by the media persons but also starting addressing their issues without delay.
He said that just as Shaheed Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for the country, the women journalists too were working for the betterment of our society. He said that the provincial government was fully awake of the issues being faced by the women journalists in Sindh.
The minister extended full support to the women journalists and told them that the government would do whatever possible for the women journalists. He said that the administration of the concerned department would also organize the training of the women journalists immediately.
He said that Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had already linked the payments of dues to the media industry with safeguarding the employment of the working journalists.
Later while talking to the journalists, Shah said that Pakistan People’s Party fully supported the Women March, adding that Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had already given instructions to the party leaders in this regard.
The minister said that the Sindh government would provide foolproof security to the women taking part in the women march.
He said that discrimination against women was intolerable. Shah said that the women should also always take into consideration religious and societal values of the country while staging their protest.
Responding to a question, Shah said that he felt extremely sad over the loss of innocent lives in the recent incident of building collapse in Karachi.
In response to another question, Shah said that those talking about the rights of the local government institutions had no local government institution or representative in their province.
The minister said that the federal government should release Rs 162 billion immediately so that the provincial government could help them in completing various development projects.
