Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has decided to extend his stay in Dubai as the International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to meet today to discuss the ongoing deadlock over the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
According to sources, a new formula is being considered by the ICC to resolve the dispute between India and Pakistan regarding the tournament. Pakistan, which is set to host the Champions Trophy, has expressed its desire to ensure that the decision is based on equality and fairness, emphasizing that the country values its honor and dignity over financial considerations.
The sources also revealed that Pakistan is pushing for this new formula to apply not only to the Champions Trophy but also to all ICC events over the next three years. The aim is to bring a resolution that would end the impasse between the two nations.
The deadlock began when India refused to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, citing security concerns. In retaliation, Pakistan issued an ultimatum, stating that if India did not reconsider its stance, Pakistan would not play against India on any international platform, including the T20 World Cup 2026.
If India and Pakistan are unable to play each other in the tournament, the financial consequences could be severe, with significant losses for broadcasters and a negative impact on the ICC. As of now, no breakthrough has been reached in the discussions.
