A video of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of National Assembly Nabeel Gabol riding a motorcycle in Lyari has gone viral on social media, sparking debate over the equal enforcement of traffic laws.
In the video, Gabol is allegedly seen travelling without a helmet and on a motorcycle without a number plate. Following the video’s circulation, social media users questioned whether traffic laws are applied equally to influential figures and ordinary citizens.
Several users tagged the Sindh government, Sindh Chief Minister, Sindh Home Minister and PPP leaders, asking whether action would be taken against a political figure in the same way it would be taken against an ordinary citizen for similar violations.
Users argued that the law should apply equally to everyone and that no individual should receive exemption from traffic regulations because of their position or influence.
Traffic authorities in Karachi have previously carried out operations against citizens for violations, particularly riding motorcycles without number plates and other breaches of road safety rules. Officials have also repeatedly advised citizens to follow traffic regulations.
After the video went viral, some users criticised what they described as a double standard, saying that if ordinary citizens are required to strictly follow traffic laws, the same standards should apply to public representatives and political figures as well.
