LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to approach the Supreme Court (SC) against bail granted to Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif by the Lahore High Court (LHC).
According to a statement issued today (Tuesday), a NAB’s prosecution team had initiated to prepare an appeal, keeping in view the over-sighted or ignored facts by the three-member bench against the accused’ in Lahore’s accountability court.
“NAB has clarified that the Bureau is a National Institution which performs its duties under lawful parameters purely in the good faith and interest of the nation and the country, as well, by setting aside any kind of pressure and pressings,” it added.
The statement added that NAB Chairman issued clear instructions that every Inquiry or Investigation should be concluded within a designated time period and references be filed in accountability courts based on solid evidence, so the corrupt elements may be penalised and punished, as per law.
On April 22, a referee bench of the LHC ruled in favour of granting bail to the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly in assets beyond means and money laundering case.
Earlier on May 8, it was reported that the PML-N leader was barred from flying from the Lahore airport to the UK via Qatar in the early hours of Saturday by the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA), a day after the LHC granted him permission to travel abroad once for medical treatment.
The PML-N president was told he could not leave the country until the system was updated. The federal government had also announced to file a petition against the permission granted to him to leave for abroad.
