LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday arrested media tycoon and businessman Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman.
A spokesperson for the anti-corruption watchdog said that NAB Lahore bureau arrested him in a case pertaining to the purchase of a 54-kanal piece of land.
Rehman had appeared before the accountability bureau on Thursday to answer questions about the land in question amid an inquiry against him. He was unable to satisfy officials with his answers and was subsequently arrested.
According to NAB, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had illegally leased the land to Rehman in 1986. He will be produced in front of an accountability court tomorrow for his physical remand.
On March 5, Rehman had appeared before the NAB and had informed the bureau that he purchased the land from a private owner and that he possessed evidence of the same.
