QUETTA: In a harrowing reminder of the persistent security challenges gripping Balochistan, a senior police officer and several personnel were abducted by heavily armed terrorists late last night following a fierce, hours-long gun battle in the Kach area of Ziarat district.
Balochistan has long been a flashpoint for such high-profile abductions and targeted attacks on law enforcement agencies, with frontline personnel frequently bearing the brunt of the region’s complex insurgency.
Ironically, this latest security breach occurred amidst growing public skepticism over superficial official narratives; it comes at a time when various provincial government officials and MPAs have frequently been seen staging brief appearances on main highways just to take photographs—seemingly to project a façade that “all is well” in the province—before quickly disappearing.

According to reports gathered from local sources, a contingent of approximately 30 to 35 Ziarat Police personnel put up a valiant defense, engaging the attackers in a day-long standoff. However, the outmanned and outgunned police force eventually ran out of ammunition. Deprived of critical reinforcements and timely back-up, the defense was breached around 11:00 PM.
Exploiting the lack of logistical support, the terrorists stormed the location and abducted the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ziarat, two Station House Officers (SHOs), and multiple other police personnel before fleeing into the rugged terrain. Official sources confirmed that at least nine of the abducted personnel belong to the Kawas police station.
A massive search and rescue operation has been launched by security forces to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe recovery of the captive officers, as pressure mounts on the administration to address the stark reality on the ground.
