BANNU: A most wanted terrorist commander identified as Gedar was killed during an intelligence-based operation in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police said.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu Muhammad Furqan Bilal confirmed the killing of the commander in an operation carried out jointly by the district police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
According to police, two terrorists were killed after a fierce exchange of fire. Police recovered a sniper rifle and an M4 rifle along with the body of one terrorist from the spot, while accomplices of the terrorists fled with the body of the second dead terrorist.
Police said an intelligence-based operation is underway against terrorist elements affiliated with Fitna-ul-Khawarij within the limits of Domail police station, led by DPO Bannu.
The operation is being conducted in Akbar Ali Khan Kalay, Sadakhel, Sadar Awan and adjacent areas. Police and CTD teams are taking action against the presence and movement of terrorist elements based on intelligence information, officials said.
According to police, search, surveillance and checking of suspicious places is also underway in the area. Security has been tightened in various areas of Bannu Township and Domail.
