Minor polishing shoes in Quetta snowfall enrolled in school

QUETTA: A minor boy whose video went viral showing him sitting beside a wall to polish shoes in freezing temperatures in Quetta has received help from government authorities.
Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal Managing Director Aon Abbas Bappi said the shoe polisher, named Asadullah, has been admitted to a school and the government will bear all educational expenses till graduation.
He said the child has been provided a school uniform, bag, books and all other necessary items, adding that he has even started going to school. He added that the child will be provided monthly stipend and other facilities to carry on his studies, while financial aid will be given to his family.

Earlier this week, a video went viral on social media showing a young child sitting beside a wall to polish shoes in freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall.
The viral video created an uproar and outpouring of sympathy for the child and urging the federal and provincial governments to ensure his well-being.
A spokesman for the Balochistan government had announced to take guardianship of the child. Liaquat Shahlwani said that the provincial government would also look after more such children who have to work at a very young age.
Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal also visited the child’s home and appreciated his efforts for working in such extreme temperatures. He announced a financial stipend and provided one month’s ration to his family.
