Microsoft has been testing the latest version of its Teams app for Windows since March and there are rumors that the new Teams, also known as Teams 2.0, may soon be available on Mac PCs.
Petri says that the public preview of the Mac client for the new Teams will be live sometime later in early September 2023, according to a post on the exclusive Microsoft 365 admin center website. Administrators who have signed up for Microsoft 365’s public preview and/or targeted release programs should soon be able to toggle between the old Teams Mac client and the brand-new Teams Mac software.
Once the public preview for the new Teams Mac client begins, users can access it, and then switch back to the current Teams client at any time, according to Microsoft.
The new Microsoft Teams 2.0’s back end is where the majority of the changes are located. According to Microsoft, users should experience up to a twofold increase in app launch and meeting join times compared to the current version. The program should also consume up to 70% less storage space and up to 50% less memory than the current version on a Mac PC.
Besides the performance upgrades, the new Teams will also offer other features including simplified actions to reduce the amount of clutter for things like notifications, messages, and more. Users will also be able to remain signed into the new Teams app, even if they switch to different organizations and accounts. Recently, Microsoft announced the new Teams will make it easier for users to switch between chats with different groups in the same organization.
