Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman has departed for Gaza as the Israeli siege of the densely populated strip continues, a news report claimed on Sunday.
The report, published in a leading Urdu newspaper, claims that Rehman has taken food and medical supplies along with him.
The details of Rehman’s journey have been kept secret in hopes of reaching the people of Gaza ‘silently’, the report added.

The report cited sources close to Rehman for the claim and also added that JUI spokesman Aslam Ghauri confirmed the trip without giving details.
The visit to Gaza comes days after Rehman addressed a rally in Karachi to show solidarity with the people of Palestine. The rally had been named ‘Toofan-e-Aqsa’.
