LAHORE: The Lahore police has secured a four-day physical remand for cleric Abubakar Muaviya in yet another child rape case filed at the Shahdara Police Station.
The suspect was transferred to the police station for questioning regarding the new child abuse allegation.
According to an official, the police asserted that they apprehended the suspect in the act of raping a minor boy and took him into custody at the scene.
Ayesha Raza Farooq, chairperson of the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC), announced on Twitter that Abubakar Siddique Muaviya had been arrested under criminal case number 2441/24 dated 7/4/24 u/s 376(iii) and was now on a four-day physical remand.
She commended the inspector general of police and the NCRC for their actions.
A few weeks earlier, Muaviya had been arrested in a case filed in Tandlianwala, Faisalabad, for allegedly raping a child.
He was subsequently released from the case by a magistrate after the victim’s father informed the court that the first information report (FIR) was lodged against the suspect due to misunderstandings.
It should be noted that in a video circulating on social media, the victim’s father stated that he had forgiven Muaviya in the name of God and withdrew the charges after mediation by a prominent cleric who visited their home.
