KARACHI: Hasrat Mohani Maternity Home of the DMC West has become a place of ghost employees where workers are only withdrawing salaries every month.
According to the details, due to mismanagement and incompetence of the Chief Medical Officer of Baldia West, most of the doctors and staff in the dispensaries and maternity homes in every zone are absent. No patient has come has visited the hospital for the last three years, however, ghost employees are withdrawing salaries.
Similarly, Hasrat Mohani Maternity Home located in the Pak colony area of Site Zone Karachi has been running doctors for two years. There are a total of 11 workers on duty in this maternity home but the majority are absent but are paid every month and a compounder named Kamran Siddiqui marks attendance in ‘present’ of such employees who are absent.
Most of the time, compounder Kamran Siddiqui of Hasrat Mohani Maternity Home is himself absent but not receives his salary per month but also 30% of the salary from the ghost employees. Maternity Home Afzal Siddiqui, a special man of CMO and Dr. Saad Pasha, is in charge of the dispensary in the same premises, apparently working as a clerk.
Like Kamran Siddiqui, Afzal Siddiqui often disappears from work for months but receives a salary every month. The people of Pak Colony do not have access to any medical treatment from the dispensary which has also had eight employees but it remains empty.
Arshad Siddiqui, Clerk, of Asifabad Dispensary, has been made in-charge and he receives salary commission from ghost employees. In this regard, helpless citizens are still deprived of medical treatment facilities.
Sources said that on one hand, the citizens in the said areas have been deprived of medical facilities, and on the other hand, by deploying employees in almost closed institutions, rupees worth millions have been squandered in the budget of the people in terms of monthly salaries. An attempt was made to get details from Rafia Gul, in-charge of Hasrat Mohani Maternity Home.
In-charge Hasrat Mohani Maternity Home Rafia Gul in her defense told MM news that I am performing my duty regularly. “What do I need to know who comes or not? You can find out the details from the CMO yourself,” she stated.
“I am a staff nurse. It is my job to provide medical aid. I am present for this, but I do not get any medicine or doctors,” she maintained.
When CMO Dr. Saad Pasha was asked about this, he said that we have written to MCs and administrators many times for the recruitment of doctors but none of our staff listened to him. ” When the MM news asked him for a copy of these letters, he hesitated and said, “These are official documents. I will not give you a copy. Ask the administrator of Baldia West why they do not recruit doctors.”
