As a Kdrama fan, it bugs me when I see female leads being so strong-headed and smart but still playing dumb at the same time. So far, the best female lead for me has been Hong Cha Young, played by Jeon Yeo Been in the drama serial Vincenzo. But talking about Marry My Husband’s Kang Ji-won, played by Park Min-Young makes me sad.
Marry My Husband is about a woman, in 2023, who gets murdered accidentally by her husband after witnessing his affair with her very own best friend. However, she awakes ten years earlier in 2013, and begins her second life.
Now aware of her future, she is determined not to suffer the same fate and makes every effort to make her best friend take over her destiny and marry her husband instead of her.
What I don’t get is Kang Ji-won’s character had so much potential yet she made choices that made her loved ones suffer. Like last week, she knew her life was in danger yet she drove alone at night, risking Yoo Ji-hyuk’s life what happened? He ended up being injured badly.
This was not it for her, in the next episode, Ji-won disrespectfully treated her once-husband Park Min-hwan, who we since episode one know how violently reacts if Ji-won does not act in the way he wants.
We can totally blame her in that scene because it was during working hours, what she did was when she was surrounded by coworkers, and never ever she thought of being hunted by Min-hwan. I have solely grave issues with her character later how she handles situations.
Later in the night when she gets attacked by Min-hwan, instead of being totally aware of her fate, instead of knowing the marital arts thought by her boyfriend for times like this, and instead of having time to dodge the bullet and leave, Kang Ji-won gives up and let him kill her instead? For what? For being too nice?
This was the turning point of the drama that should have been written and played by the leading actress differently. The thing about leading actors especially leading actresses is that they are followed and influenced by many viewers.
Let’s see how the finale concludes the most talked-about series as ‘Marry My Husband’ continues its triumphant for remaining strong with just one episode remaining. The last episode of the drama will stream on Amazon Prime Video tonight at 8 pm (Pakistani time).
