A tragic incident of honor killing has occurred in Lahore, Punjab, where a Christian man, Nixon Masih, allegedly murdered his daughter using a hammer. The victim, Arooj Nixon Masih, was killed in the Raiwind Mission Colony.
Following the crime, police promptly arrived at the scene, recovered the weapon used in the murder, and transported the victim’s body to the hospital.
This incident is reminiscent of another disturbing case from June in southern Punjab. In Vehari district’s Pull 19/WB village, Siad Hussain Dhadhi, his son, and three other relatives were implicated in the murders of two sisters. The sisters had married of their own choice and were subsequently killed by their father, brother, and relatives after being returned home through a panchayat.
Local reports indicate that the killings took place after a police patrolling team responded to a tip-off about gunfire and commotion. Upon raiding the outhouse of Siad Hussain Dhadhi, officers discovered two women, Ms. Nishat and Ms. Afshan, dead from gunshot wounds.
The suspects—Siad Dhadhi, his son Asim, and relatives Adnan, Afshal, and Riaz—fled the scene as the police arrived. The bodies were sent to Vehari District Headquarters Hospital for a postmortem examination. A case has been filed under sections 302, 311, 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code, with the FIR alleging that the murders were committed in the name of honor due to grudges held by the victims’ families.
