KARACHI: A man has abducted and raped his brother-in-law’s minor sister to avenge his sister’s love marriage in Orangi Town of the metropolis.
On Friday, a police team recovered the abducted girl from Hyderabad originally abducted from Karachi’s Orangi Town after her brother married out of love the sister of the alleged abductor.
Superintendent Police Investigation of West Abid Hussain said on a tip-off, a police team raided a house in Hyderabad and could detain one of the suspects as well.
The 15-year-old’s abduction was reported at Orangi Town Police Station and the police claimed a man identified Mannan abducted her and subjected her to physical and sexual abuses.
Police said the brother of the victim had married out of choice the sister of Mannan and in a bid to avenge the marriage, the accused kidnapped the minor and raped her.
Police have sent the victim to a medical facility for tests to determine the treatment meted out to her while they have begun the probe and search for the prime accused.
The number of child rape cases reported in Pakistan every day gone up in the first half of 2020, child protection NGO Sahil disclosed in its latest report. NGO Sahil said in its six-month “Cruel Number” report that More than six children on average were subjected to sexual abuse in the period across Pakistan.
According to the NGO, most of the cases were reported in Punjab — at 57%. Of the rest, 32% were reported in Sindh and 6% in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). It further disclosed that over 35 cases were reported in Islamabad, 22 in Balochistan, 10 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and one in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
Out of the total reported cases, 62% were from rural areas and 38% reported from urban areas, the report said. At least 173 children were gang-raped, whereas there were 227 reports of attempted sexual assault. Moreover, 38 children were killed after they were sexually abused.
