The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has filed a reference in the Accountability Court against Malik Riaz, the owner of Bahria Town, and 32 other accused, including Ali Riaz and officers of Bahria Town.
According to media, the Accountability Court has issued notices to the accused for February 25.
The reference has been filed against Bahria Town for illegally occupying government land, with the reference stating that Bahria Town also violated the assurance made to the Supreme Court.
The reference further mentions that the Supreme Court had directed Bahria Town to deposit 460 billion rupees and ordered the Sindh government to conduct a new land survey.
It is noteworthy that on January 21, 2025, NAB had stated that multiple cases of fraud and deception were under investigation against property tycoon Malik Riaz and others, advising the public not to invest in Bahria Town’s Dubai project.
The government is in contact with the UAE authorities to facilitate the legal return of Malik Riaz.
