LONDON: Pakistani activist for female education and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has associated with Apple to produce documentaries, dramas and children series’ and that would air on the company’s streaming service.
As per details, Malala Yousafzai has signed a multi-year programming partnership with Apple TV Plus. Under the agreement, her original programming for the streamer will cover dramas, comedies, documentaries, animation, and children’s series. She will work on the series under her newly formed production banner, Extracurricular.
A blog post on the company’s website said on Monday “Malala Yousafzai and her production company, Extracurricular, is expanding an already existing partnership with Apple.”
Regarding the development, Malala said, “I believe in the power of stories to bring families together, forge friendships, build movements, and inspire children to dream.”
“I couldn’t ask for a better partner than Apple to help bring these stories to life. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support women, young people, writers, and artists in reflecting the world as they see it,” said Yousafzai.
In 2018, the iPhone maker teamed up with Yousafzai on the “Malala Fund” that seeks to extend secondary education opportunities to girls across the globe.
The girls’ education champion joins a roster of artists that have signed up to work with the Apple TV+ streaming service, including Oprah Winfrey, Martin Scorsese, Octavia Spencer, Alfonso Cuarón, and Tom Hanks.
Yousafzai’s journey to becoming the youngest-ever Nobel winner began with the local branch of the hardline Taliban movement taking over her hometown in Swat Pakistan in 2007 when she was 9 years old.
Today, Malala lives in the UK and has repeatedly vowed to continue working for the cause of women’s education in Pakistan, especially in those areas of the country where extremists and militant outfits are said to have been blowing up girls’ schools.
