KARACHI: A major power outage occurred at Dhabeji early Sunday after a cable fault in K-Electric’s system disrupted electricity supply to several phases of the facility.
According to a statement issued by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC), power supply was suspended to different phases of Dhabeji at around 6:00 a.m. K-Electric attributed the outage to a cable fault.
The KW&SC spokesperson said the power failure affected the Third Phase, Fourth Phase and K-III Pump House at Dhabeji. As a result, 10 out of 21 pumps were forced to shut down.
The closure of the 10 pumps is expected to partially affect water supplies to Karachi.
The spokesperson said the Water Corporation was in continuous contact with K-Electric management to ensure the power supply was restored as soon as possible. Once electricity is restored, the 10 affected pumps will be brought back into operation immediately.
The KW&SC further said that water supply to the affected areas would return to normal shortly after electricity is restored.
