PESHAWAR: Local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be held tomorrow and voters will cast six different ballots through six ballot papers at the same time.
In the first phase of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local body elections, voting will be held in 5 divisions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, and DI Khan. Administrative heads, mayors, or chairmen will be elected in 66 tehsils of 17 districts.
Elections for Tehsil Council, Village Council, and Neighborhood Council will also be held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local body elections. Local body elections will be held on a party basis. In these districts, 12.635 million voters will exercise their franchise.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 37,752 candidates are in the fray for 14,754 seats in 17 districts. 689 candidates are contesting for 66 seats of Tehsil Chairman or Mayor. 19,282 candidates will contest for 7,146 seats of General Councilors, while 3,905 candidates are in the fray for 2,382 seats for women.
Voters will have to cast separate votes for the Chairman, General Counsel, Youth, Women, Labor, Farmers, and Minorities. Thus, every citizen will have to cast six votes on six different ballot papers. The Tehsil Chairman will be elected directly by the people ie the political parties will nominate their own candidate and the candidate who gets more votes will be elected as the Tehsil Chairman.
For the first time in history, local body elections are also being held in the tribal districts, and in the first phase of elections, elections will be held in Bajaur, Mohmand, and Khyber districts while in the remaining districts elections will be held in the second phase.
