RAWALPINDI: The revelations of Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Chatha increased the political heat in Pakistan as he admitted alleged rigging to ensure the win of the losing candidates in the division.
Addressing a press conference at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday, Chatha tendered his resignation, confessing that he did injustice to the people of his city.
He admitted that “rigging” took place in Rawalpindi Division and took responsibility for it. “We converted the losers into winners with 50,000 votes margin,” he claimed and surrendered himself before the police.
“I apologise to the returning officers of my division,” he said, adding that his subordinates were crying about what they were directed to do.
Chatha claimed that even today the election staff are affixing fake stamps on the ballot papers.
Though the allegations of the Rawalpindi commissioner are severe here are some basic questions that need to be answered.
1. Why did the commissioner keep silent during the alleged rigging?
2. Why he did not provide any supportive evidence to support his allegations?
3, Why he should have not named a singer DRO or RO whom he pressured for alleged rigging in the division?
4. Is he suffering from a mental condition?
5. Has Chatha played an alleged game as he is retiring next month?
Apart from this, the allegations are severe and need to be investigated by the Pakistan government.
