Lawyer arrested for vandalising LHC’s copy branch

LAHORE: A lawyer lost his temper and smashed the counter glass installed at the newly-built office of the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) copy office after he received a certified copy of a case with delay.

The lawyer has been identified as Advocate Majid Jehangir. A video of the incident shows the lawyer holding a stick in a telling the security guard to back off. The lawyer smashes all the glass fixed above the public counters of the copy branch.

A LHC spokesperson said security officials have arrested the lawyer and registered a case against him. Terrorism clauses have been added to the FIR against the lawyer.

According to the LHC spokesperson, the lawyer has been arrested and a case has been registered against him under the Anti-terrorism Act. The bar council also strongly condemned the incident and suspended the license of the lawyer.

The Punjab Bar Council also suspended the practicing licence of a lawyer for vandalising and smashing screens of counters at the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Copy Branch. The decision was taken in the Punjab Bar Council’s meeting held in Lahore headed by the council’s vice-chairman.

DIG Operations Sohail Chaudhry said that legal action would be taken against the accused. He said no one is above the law no matter how influential someone is. He added that the security of courts was the first priority in which no negligence would be tolerated.
