Opposition in Senate criticized the new social media regulatory policy of PTI-led government today (Friday).
Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Senator Muhammad Usman Khan Kakar opposed the new social media policy and said, “We do not accept the law of Jungle.”
He said that the new policy was the government’s move to control social media for its benefits.
Muhammad Usman said that the journalists are being restricted and some have been kidnapped and murdered.
Meanwhile, PPP Senator Rubina Khalid said, “The government assured us that the new policy would be brought before the Senate committee but nothing happened.”
Rubina Khalid said that the ministry had promised that the committee would be made aware of the new rules, adding that a notice should be taken in this regard and protest should be registered against the rules.
Earlier, the incumbent government formulated a new social media policy in which social media companies will have to establish offices and database servers in Pakistan and social media companies will be required to submit information such as subscriber information, traffic data, and content data to a designated investigation agency when sought.
