Police in Karachi presented Anmol alias Pinky, who was arrested in connection with a drug recovery and illegal weapons case, before a court. The court subsequently remanded the accused to judicial custody.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar took notice of the alleged protocol extended to the suspect and sought an immediate report from Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan.
The Home Minister ordered a transparent inquiry into the incident and questioned how the accused was provided with protocol. He directed the responsible officers to submit explanations and also ordered immediate action against personnel involved in facilitating the suspect.
Mr Lanjar stated that action would be taken against anyone found damaging the credibility of law enforcement agencies. He added that granting unnecessary protocol to accused persons in courts goes against the principles of justice, and that the Sindh Government would not compromise on the rule of law.
Meanwhile, IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho also took serious notice of alleged violations of SOPs and regulations during the suspect’s court appearance.
According to a police spokesperson, the Additional IG Karachi has been directed to submit a detailed preliminary report on the incident. Orders have also been issued for the immediate suspension of the investigating officer and staff found guilty of negligence or misconduct.
Furthermore, instructions have been given to constitute a senior officers’ inquiry committee to ensure a transparent investigation into the matter.
