Two police officers, Khan Bahadur and Hikmatullah, were martyred in a militant attack near the Jabo Khel area of Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday, as reported by national media.
According to a report by ARY News on Monday, the officers were on their way to their duty station when unknown assailants opened fire on them. Police forces promptly reached the scene and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers, who fled following the incident.
This attack comes amidst a worrying increase in militant activity in the region. On November 30, 2024, three individuals, including a Punjab police officer, Sub-Inspector Qadeer Khan, and a father and son, were shot dead in Lakki Marwat.
The victims were reportedly visiting the area for holidays when unidentified attackers targeted them. On the other hand, the motive behind the November 30 attack remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has experienced a surge in violent incidents in recent weeks. On November 20, a suicide attack on a Joint Check Post in the Mali Khel area of Bannu resulted in the martyrdom of 12 security personnel.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Khwarij militants attempted to breach the check post but were repelled by security forces. The attackers then detonated an explosive-laden vehicle, causing significant structural damage and the loss of ten soldiers from the security forces and two personnel from the Frontier Constabulary.
