Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar on Saturday announced the launch of ‘Pink Bus’, a women-only transport service in Lahore.
Addressing the Punjab Assembly, he said this would introduce pink bikes on 16 roads in Lahore and provide one to two buses on the routes, with a total of 300 buses dedicated to improving mobility for women.
Moreover, Bilal Akbar also revealed plans to expand the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system to other cities, including Faisalabad, Sialkot and Multan.
“While Lahore has seen huge investments, it is time to look at other cities,” he said, adding that 5,000 to 6,000 buses would be sent to each capital.
Earlier, on September 28, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched five new hybrid buses aimed at promoting the underdeveloped tourism industry. The buses have been deployed on various roads in Lahore to support tourism in the area.
