The Sindh High Court has ordered a re-take of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) within four weeks following controversies surrounding the recent exam for MBBS and BDS admissions.
In September, MDCAT 2024 was conducted at multiple centers across Sindh, including Dow University of Health Sciences’ Ojha Campus and NED University in Karachi, as well as at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in Jamshoro, Bilawal Sports Complex in Shaheed Benazirabad, the PTS in Larkana, and IBA Public School in Sukkur.
However, the examination faced backlash from parents who criticized Dow University’s administration, citing concerns over unprofessional management.
According to the court’s directive, the MDCAT—initially held on September 22 by Dow University—will now be conducted under the supervision of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi.
Earlier, the SHC had suspended the results of the MDCAT 2024, prohibiting authorities from finalizing admissions based on the exam. The two-judge bench, comprising Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Amjad Ali Sahito, issued this ruling in response to a petition filed by students alleging misconduct in the admissions process.
Led by Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed, the petitioners requested the court to declare the exam invalid and call for a re-test, citing accusations of leaked question papers and cheating. The court also expressed concerns that the current MDCAT system could foster corruption and malpractice.
