KARACHI: Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) team with the help of police demolished two illegal hydrants, destroyed two others and disconnected five illegal water connections in Yaru Goth area near Manghpir.
According to sources, a KWSB team, headed by Managing Director Asadullah Khan and along with police carried out a targeted raid Yaru Goth in the area and destroyed walls and two big tanks of the illegal hydrant and entirely ruined the network of two other illegal hydrants in the same area.
Sources further said the raided team also disengaged five illegal pipelines of three-inch-diameters and one other of one-inch-diameter. The officials also confiscated the removed pipelines and other materials used to run the illegal business in the area.
Director Asadullah Khan told the illegal pipelines had been installed in the government’s 48-inch-diameter line which provides water to different localities of Baldia town and other areas.
He said that FIRs against the accused involved in the water theft were being lodged. Meanwhile, the MD KWSB praised the team for successful operation and instructed them to continue operations against the mafia.
He said that KWSB would extend the scope of operation in other parts of the metropolis, adding that no mercy to the water thieves would be offered any longer.
The action was being taken on the directives of Local Government Minister Nasir Shah, while cases will be registered against those involved in the illegal activities.
Water from the illegal pipeline was being supplied to Baldia Town, Ittehad Town, Saeedabad and other adjoining areas. The water was being sold in tankers to different parts of the city. The KSWB director has congratulated his team for the successful operation.
