Karachi: Dr. Arif Khan Saqi, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Studies, University of Karachi, has written a letter to the registrar against his two professors of.
The letter issued by Arif Khan Saqi reads that, department’s professor Dr. Zahid Ali Zaidi along with Dr. Atif Aslam has created a disturbance in the department for since long. Dr. Arif accuses both professors of displaying prejudice, bigotry, and extremist contempt in the visiting faculty.
Dr. Saqi further mentions that, due to the attitude of Dr. Zahid and Dr. Atif, the only teaching associate in our department, who worked day and night and took revolutionary steps together with his colleagues played a key role in the department have been forced to move to another university.
Moreover, all our efforts to maintain peace and dignity with Dr. Zahid Ali are proving futile. The world of his prejudice, narrow-mindedness, and extremism is now that no argument has any effect on him. Instead of giving a written answer on the basis of knowledge, they are adopting an aggressive approach based on incomprehensible stubbornness, he added.
On 23 October, in the farewell program of M.Phil students of the department, he demonstrated an aggressive attitude. The letter further states that, keeping his position above the odds Dr. Zahid Ali ruined the well-organized and dignified ceremony, which ended in chaos.
Though, while describing the disturbance created in the event Dr. Saqi wrote, during the concluding remarks of the President of the department, Zahid Ali and Dr. Atif Aslam stood up and grabbed the mike from the president’s hand. The participants present there were stunned by their incomprehensible and rude gestures.
While maintaining the rule of law in the department, the letter demanded that Dr. Zahid along with his fellow teacher, had badly damaged the environment of the department of Islamic Studies and they should be held accountable for that.
In addition, Dr. Saqi said, both the teachers have trampled the legal and ethical rules of the university under their feet. The letter clarifies that, in the 634th meeting of the syndicate which was held in 2018 a clear decision was issued regarding the Ph.D. dissertation of Dr. Zahid that, the matter of his professorship would be subject to the recommendation of the plagiarism committee.
Meanwhile, Sources confirmed that, Dr. Zahid Ali wanted to be the Chairman of the Department and as Dr. Saqi was appointed as chairman due to his great services towards the department Dr. Zahidi’s wish was not fulfilled.
However, speculations are made that, Dr. Obaid Ahmad Khan is most probably the next dean of the department.
