The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday edged up amid the positive sentiment with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining nearly 400 points.

At close, the benchmark index settled at 180,502.44, an increase of 397.83 points or 0.22%.

Buying interest was witnessed across major sectors, including automobile assemblers, cement, commercial banks, fertilizer, oil and gas exploration companies, oil marketing companies (OMCs), power generation and refineries. Several index-heavy stocks, including MARI, OGDC, PPL, POL, traded in positive territory.

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) had closed the previous week under pressure, as uncertainty over the extension of the US-Iran ceasefire and concerns about oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea dampened investor sentiment, despite strong domestic fiscal and external-sector indicators.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index declined 1,325.41 points, or 0.7% week-on-week, to settle at 180,104.61 points.

Oil prices surrendered their early gains on Monday after stalled US-Iran talks renewed concerns about prolonged tensions in the Middle East. However, the absence of major disruptions to global supplies capped the upside.

Brent crude futures had climbed as much as 1% to $89.40 per barrel before trading 24 cents lower at $89.28 at 0620 GMT.

US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 67 cents to $81.74 per barrel.
