PESHAWAR: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, announced plans to introduce a local train service in Peshawar to tackle the increasing traffic congestion within the city. This announcement came during a meeting held at the CM House on Sunday, where PTI-supported members of the provincial and National Assembly from Peshawar district were present.
The primary agenda of the meeting was to deliberate on various issues concerning the development of the provincial metropolis, Peshawar. Discussions encompassed matters such as healthcare, security, traffic management, infrastructure enhancement, provision of clean drinking water, sewerage system improvement, and other pertinent concerns affecting the populace.
Emphasizing the significance of Peshawar’s development, Chief Minister Gandapur reiterated that it is a collective responsibility to prioritize the city’s progress. Plans were outlined to revitalize Peshawar, aiming to restore its former charm.
Among the proposed initiatives, the transition of street lights to solar energy and the implementation of train services to alleviate traffic congestion were highlighted. Additionally, the feasibility of involving private entities in establishing a train system akin to the BRT model was discussed.
Addressing the critical issue of sanitation, Gandapur assured swift action with sustainable solutions, including the consideration of shifting the sanitation system underground.
To enhance public service delivery, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of appointing competent individuals based on merit across all autonomous government institutions, affirming a commitment to depoliticize the process.
